A.J. Adkinson & Son, formerly R.C. Weston & Son was founded in 1931 by R. Curtis Weston, a local man who had fought in France during the first world war with the Seaforth Highlanders. After the war ended, the great depression struck and as work became scarce, Curtis began an odd job and handyman business from his mother-in -law’s garden shed.
About us
Curtis was a hard-working community minded man, of great integrity and compassion. It was only natural that an undertaking business grew alongside the building firm and in 1937, the company moved to its current premises on Saffron Road in South Wigston. A reputation for personal service saw A.J. Adkinson & Son care for the bereaved not only in Wigston, but throughout Blaby, Countesthorpe, Glen Parva and Eyres Monsell.
His dedication and passion for helping anyone in need and tirelessly supporting his community meant Curtis became one of the most prominent characters in Wigston and even Mayor of the borough. His only son, Ken, eventually led the business and when he retired in 1997, he chose the Gilbert family to take over and ensure that RC Weston & Son continued to serve local communities for generations to come.

Fraser Gilbert, his daughter, Jenny and nephew, Jamie continue Curtis’s ethos of providing the very best compassionate and personal bereavement care for Wigston and the wider area from local independent family funeral directors. In 2023, they changed the name of the funeral home, linking it to their business in Oadby
